Mrs. Ramona Williams

Dear Parents/Guardians,
My name is Ramona Hollifield Williams; I am your child’s second grade teacher for the 2015-2016 school year. I am so happy and blessed to be at West Marion Elementary working with your “precious” children.
I am a native of Mitchell County. I graduated from Appalachian State University with my Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. My husband, Steve Williams and I have been married for over 32 years. We have two grown children, Steve L. Williams II and Joy K. Laws. Our daughter is married and blessed us with two beautiful grand-daughters, Sophie (6 years old) & Willow (8 months old). I will be sharing stories about Sophie and Willow through-out the year, as you can probably tell, I’m “Wild” about them! Joy and her family live in Florida, because my son-in-law, Richie is in the Coast Guard.
It is my deepest desire to assist your child in his/her learning. Second grade is a terrific grade with lots of fun things to learn. This year our state has Common Core State Standards. These standards reflect the knowledge and skills students need for the future to be successful in college and careers. If you would like information about how the standards are written and what is expected from the second grade level, it is available at http://www.corestandards.org/.
You can expect your child to have reading (at least 20 minutes per evening) Monday – Friday. PLEASE sign their reading log every time he/she reads. There will be homework given Monday, Tuesday, & Thursday afternoons in the other academics areas also. Please, don’t panic! I’m very much a family person and I have no desire for your child or you to be covered up with homework. I’ll only give what I must.
There will be loads of information coming your way, please take the time to read it all and return what needs to be signed and returned. All the information you receive is very important concerning you child’s school requirements. The beginning of the year is very hectic, but we’ll get through it! If you have any questions or concerns, don’t hesitate to call me at school, 738-3353. Many times our secretary will have the answers to most questions. If I am teaching, leave your number and I’ll call you back as soon as possible. “Thank You, for trusting me with your most valued treasure!”
Best Regards,
Mrs. Ramona Williams
